New Zealand, 1877. Sergeant Frank Hardy, a battle-hardened veteran of British Colonial wars in India and Crimea, is stuck in a small New Zealand bush settlement. He searches for work as an investigator while driving a mail coach through a perilous gorge. When two settlers disappear, he is hired to find them, living or dead. But when he and a young Scandinavian woman are targeted by a ferocious killer with a deadly tomahawk he begins to wonder if his presence at a wartime atrocity eight years earlier has resurfaced. Can he find the bodies? And can he stop more killings?
