“When a Guy's Gotta Cry” is a children's story with a repetitive rhyming refrain that celebrates the therapeutic and health benefits of a good, healthy cry. Presented with compassion and humour, a young boy named Sonny is taught by the sensitive and loving members of his community to more fully understand and appreciate the importance of a full range of emotional expression--including and especially tears. With each happy, sad, or completely unexplained soggy experience, Sonny learns that crying can be one of many healthy human outlets regardless of age, sex, or gender stereotypes and socialization. Sonny eventually internalizes and finds great comfort and consolation in this important life lesson which research suggests can have implications for human health and longevity.
