Roy Case, ex-Royal Air Force, lands in Nicosia to discover that his employers – a hotel company for whom he flew cargo – have gone bankrupt. Already struggling with work, he is now stranded at a rapidly deteriorating hotel. After being assaulted on the street and encountering a host of suspect characters, he realises that the cases clearly marked 'champagne' that he was supposed to be flying to Lebanon actually contain machine guns.
His old friend Cavitt, who was imprisoned in Israel for espionage, is released and joins him, just as rumours of an old treasure, linked to an acquaintance's suicide, begin to appear.
First published in 1975, Judas Country is Gavin Lyall's seventh novel.
