A man from a small, impoverished village believes himself to have an extraordinary paternity. His genealogy, he believes, endows him with special powers and purpose. He sets out on a mission to proclaim a unique viewpoint on life's course. In spite of his lowly background, crude speech, and semi-literacy, he gathers a substantial following. Things come to a head, however, when his preaching comes to the attention of local authorities. It is a clash which severely tests his convictions.
