Binding — For paperback, I’d go with perfect binding. For hardback, with case laminate. On both, I’d use gloss.

Book size — This is one that I’ve seen people ponder over. It’s simple. For most novels of regular size (> 250 pages), I suggest 6 x 9. If it’s a novella or a short, non-fiction book (< 200 pages) I suggest 5.5 x 8.5.

On a final note, IngramSpark is part of Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. Their network reaches more than 39,000 bookstores, libraries, and retail outlets. In fact, CreateSpace often uses Ingram for both printing and distribution.

Paper — white or cream. This is a choice based on your preferences. As to my own, I choose white with CreateSpace and cream with IngramSpark. CreateSpace’s cream (sometimes) is almost yellowed. It looks like a book that has been in the sun for too long (my opinion).
