They loved me, and I loved me, too.

“What the hell am I supposed to do with leather pants?” I asked Vicky as I twisted to look at my backside in the mirror. “Wear them when you dance around your room,” she explained, and I could tell from her tone that she was trying not to add obviously. “But I don’t dance around my room,” I objected. “Well, you should start.”

I bet I do seem less engaged. I was up all night, doing something that I really love, and I’m sorry, but I just didn’t reserve enough energy to fully participate in this miserable, mandatory little exercise in public education.

So I settled on cutting myself until I bled to death.

listened to my iPod and thought about how there are good things in life, like fresh air and sun and music. Basically anything that doesn’t involve other people.

You think it’s so easy to change yourself, but it’s impossible.

People are who they are and, try as you might, you cannot make them be what you want them to be.
