This book tells the story of Agar Hume, who lost his mother when he was two years old. His father was the first violin in a second-rate music hall orchestra at Birmingham. He had once been a gentleman. He taught him French and how to play the flute. During that time he treated Agar like a dog. He wished Agar to become a member of his orchestra. Agar's tastes, however, inclined to the stage. From early childhood, Agar had possessed an almost perfect talent for mimicry. When he was nineteen years old, there was not an artist he had ever seen whom he could not represent to live. Will Agar's father allow relent and let him follow his dream?
