The author of this book Wilhelm Steinitz was an Austrian-American chess player and the first undisputed world chess champion from 1886 to 1894. Besides being a master in the practice of chess-playing, he was also a prolific writer on the theory of the game. He created a series of articles presenting and later defending his author style of playing. His articles were later described as the “Ink Wars.”
