The aim of «Thriving at Home — A Handbook for Preventing Hospital Stays» is to help readers maintain their independence and live their advancing years to the fullest. A critical element of maintaining health and happiness is to ensure that people are doing everything to prevent them from having a hospital stay, or repeated inpatient stays.

In this book, you will learn how to prevent injuries at home by making your home a safe place and how to reduce your health risks, both of which are key drivers for hospital admissions. You, your loved ones, and those in your continuum of care community can prevent hospital visits and stays with specific actions that will contribute to a healthier and happier life.

The book includes a handy list of what readers should watch for if they are at risk for COPD, diabetes, heart failure, and stroke. By informing themselves with the latest information, they can thrive at home and prevent unnecessary trips to the hospital. In an era when taking charge of one's health is more important than ever, this book can save you money and result in better health outcomes.

About the Author
When Dave Tasto witnessed the high quality, individualized care his grandmother received from compassionate care giving professionals at the end of her life, he was inspired to switch careers and launch Assisting Hands — Boston Northwest.  He channeled his experience as an engineer in program and product management toward directly affecting people's lives by offering others the same level of care his grandmother had received. A Minnesota native, Dave had earned his engineering degree from Boston University, and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  In support of his new career he became a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP).  Dave believes in being active in the community. He regularly speaks to veterans' groups to educate eligible veterans on how to access home care benefits.  His office participates with the Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association through local partnerships to bring awareness and resources to families in the community.  Moreover, Dave supports local businesses as a board member with the Chamber of Commerce and actively volunteers in his children's schools and his church.   His commitment to helping families keep loved ones healthy at home is evident in his newly published book, «Thriving at Home — A Handbook for Preventing Hospital Stays.» Dave lives with his wife and two children in a Boston suburb. He loves hiking, sailing, and skiing — all with family and friends.
