Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

When an unidentified monster threatens international shipping, French oceanographer Pierre Aronnax and his unflappable assistant Conseil join an expedition organized by the US Navy to hunt down and destroy the menace. After months of fruitless searching, they finally grapple with their quarry, but Aronnax, Conseil, and the brash Canadian harpooner Ned Land are thrown overboard in the attack, only to find that the monster is actually a futuristic submarine, the Nautilus, commanded by a shadowy, mystical, preternaturally imposing man who calls himself Captain Nemo. Thus begins a journey of 20,000 leaguesnearly 50,000 milesthat will take Captain Nemo, his crew, and these three adventurers on a journey of discovery through undersea forests, coral graveyards, miles-deep trenches, and even the sunken ruins of Atlantis. Jules Vernes novel of undersea exploration has been captivating readers ever since its first publication in 1870, and Frederick Paul Walters reader-friendly, scientifically meticulous translation of this visionary science fiction classic is complete and unabridged down to the smallest substantive detail.

Boring on the most of the first part, sangat lambat dan paragrafnya terlalu deskriptif dan panjang banget.

Jules Verne ini kayanya emg pengen banget pamer pengetahuan (gak cuma di buku ini sih, di buku lain yg udah pernah gue baca juga gitu) dia mengenai biota laut ya, tapi disini deskripsi mengenai itu justru bikin ceritanya jadi membosankan karna for the most part, gak memberikan apa2 ke dalam plotnya.

But if you REALLY LOVE about fishs and other sea wonders lainnya, genus dan familia species mereka, mungkin kalian akan cukup fascinated dengan itu.

Tapi endingnya unsatisfied me, karena there more had left unsaid dari journey 20.000 liga di bawah laut mereka.

And to the question asked by Ecclesiastes three thousand years ago, "That which is far off and exceeding deep, who can find it out?" two men alone of all now living have the right to give an answer — CAPTAIN NEMO AND MYSELF

My nerves were somewhat calmer, but in my excited brain I saw over again all my existence on board the Nautilus; every incident, either happy or unfortunate, which had happened since my disappearance from the Abraham Lincoln — the submarine hunt, the Torres Straits, the savages of Papua, the running ashore, the coral cemetery, the passage of Suez, the Island of Santorin, the Cretan diver, Vigo Bay, Atlantis, the iceberg, the South Pole, the imprisonment in the ice, the fight among the poulps, the storm in the Gulf Stream, the Avenger, and the horrible scene of the vessel sunk with all her crew.
