The Territory South of the River Ohio was once called the Southwest Territory.  It is the land between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River, called the Tennessee country.  It belonged to the Cherokee.  Taking it from them would not be easy.  Herein the conflict begins.  WHEN THE WEST WAS TENNESSEE is the story of an uncommon people who settled this frontier land — when the west was Tennessee country. The story is told via a loose narrative set in the 1790's about what life was like on the frontier.
When The West Was Tennessee unfolds in seven chapters, like stories being shared by the old ones, around a pot-bellied stove or a fire somewhere in the mountains.  It's the tale of the uncommon people who settled this land, and their on-going struggles to be connected-up with the outside world, which existed on the other side of a mountain range. Many were not aware this other world even exsisted.  This is what the book's about.  I hope you enjoy it.
