“Hello, Helen. You are a hard woman to catch alone,” said Mr. Elliott as he closed the door behind him and locked it. “There is always someone around, not that I can blame them. I would not want to leave a pretty girl like you alone, either.”

As usual, it only took a few words from him to make Helen blush like a schoolgirl. Helen clasped her hands in front of her and looked at the floor, but the fact that they were alone with very little chance of interruption had made her a little bolder. “Must you tease me, sir?” she asked.

That seemed to give young Mr. Elliott pause. “Tease you? Is that what you think I’m doing?”

Helen did not have an answer to that. What he was doing looked a lot like flirting, but it was more likely to be just teasing, nothing more.

Mr. Elliott walked closer until he was standing right in front of her and Helen regretted her bravery. Why had she said that silly thing?

“Oh, my lovely girl. I am not teasing you. All those things I have said to you over these past few days, I do mean them, you know.” He touched Helen’s chin and nudged her head up so that Helen had no choice but to look at him. “Every single one.”

Helen felt her breath catch and her blush started to spread. She looked at Mr. Elliott in confusion. Could he really mean all those things?

Mr. Elliott leaned in and kissed her without warning, pressing his lips against hers firmly, one hand on her cheek as the other came to rest around her waist, pulling her flush against him. Helen tensed, frozen in shock and unsure what to do with her hands, completely at loss how to react. Mr. Elliott was not deterred by it; he kept kissing her and finally Helen let her body loosen in his embrace. She had thought and dreamed about kissing him, but the reality was so much more intense than she could ever have imagined.
