Konrad Bruning wants it all. He wants adventure, wealth, love, and freedom. In search of his dream, he emigrates from the United States to Canada’s northwest in the early 1900s. But wanting it all does not guarantee that Konrad can have it all. Konrad quickly learns that the road to success is not a road at all but is instead hundreds of miles of rail, muddy footpaths, horse and buggy tracks, ragging rivers, bear attacks, drunken brawls, murder, sickness, and loss. Eventually, Konrad’s past finds him and he is forced to resolve the conflict that he tried to leave behind: Is this life all there is, or is there more?
