Saving Our Children from the First Amendment

In 1952 the Supreme Court issued its opinion in Beauharnais v. Illinois,3 a case that affirmed the conviction of an individual charged under an Illinois criminal statute making it

unlawful to publish, present or exhibit material that “‘portrays depravity, criminality, unchastity, or lack of virtue of a class of citizens, of any race, color, creed or religion which said publication or exhibition exposes the citizens of any race, color, creed or religion to contempt, derision, or obloquy.
