One of the greatest playwrights of his time, Wilde was also a novelist, poet, essayist and celebrated wit, noted for his involvement in the art movement Aestheticism. Amongst his many successes were his only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891), and plays such as Lady Windermere’s Fan (1892), An Ideal Husband (1895) and The Importance of Being Earnest (1895).
