'The New Machiavelli' is a novel by H. G. Wells. It is written in the first person by the protagonist, Richard “Dick” Remington, who is passionate about “statecraft” and dreams of reshaping the social and political landscape of England. Remington is a brilliant student at Cambridge, and he writes several books on political themes. He marries an heiress, enters parliament as a Liberal influenced by the socialism of Altiora and Oscar Bailey and later switches to the Conservative party.
