Sixteen Serbian folk tales were chosen from two older comprehensive compilations by renowned authors Milorad Panić-Surep and Dr. Vojislav Đurić, along with one Egyptian folk story previously published by Danny Kaye.
The idea to introduce the Balkans and its intermingled mentalities through sixteen folk tales (plus the one cited) came from the phrase 'sve u šesnaest', literally 'all in sixteen', meaning 'by and by' or 'with all might', 'intensely', and the like.
