This story is semi-autobiographical. It is based on three dreams I experienced in my younger days, dreams that each recurred several times over a period of a few years, the kind of dreams that seemed very real at the time of their occurrence and that had a very profound impact on my waking moments. I have remembered them all these many years. I developed the story in my mind as I went about my regular routine until I finally quit procrastinating and wrote it down to share with others. Much of the story takes place in the 1960s and 70s, stretching down to the present.
