Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they've known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. My heart can't handle this 😭💖 First of all, I'm really impressed by the mother. She's a courageous lady and always put everyone else's need before her. I'm amazed of how she can endure everything. I love the way the author portrays the scene. It's simple, but touching. I'm a little bit disappointed with the main girl, since she's immature. But aside from that, it's a must read 💖

I thought about running, running until I couldn’t run anymore. I’d run to the university to look for Papa. I’d run to our house. I’d just run
