This resource was developed through the cooperative efforts of school nurse experts, nurse attorneys, and education attorneys. It provides information, explanations, and resources that assist school health service programs in meeting their legal obligations to provide safe care and respect the rights of children while protecting schools and school nurses. It is important to note that, in some situations/content areas, there is no legal guidance or laws that direct safe practice. In those situations, the authors present “best practices” based on clinical guidelines or practice models.
