As the country crept closer to civil war, Aaron Richardson found himself more and more at odds with his world. He was a slave owner’s son, born to privilege at Calla, a beautiful plantation nestled into the rolling hills of Tennessee, but he rejected both slavery and privilege. He fell madly in love only to have that love denied by both fathers. He tried to defy them, but war got in the way. As hostilities became inevitable, Aaron wrestled with fighting his conscience versus fighting for his land and his home. When the country split itself apart, Aaron’s inner struggle, like the war itself, became a conflict wrought with peril.
