Poor little omega, wanting cock but having to participate

She sighed, rubbing her hands over the tops of her thighs. It drew his attention to her figure again, as if it had ever really left. She had hips he’d like to grasp, to hold close. Everything she did screamed omega. The fact she’d thought for a moment she’d be able to pass as a beta made him shake his head.

She was all protective, all caring. He could have spotted her a mile away even if she hadn’t been mid-heat. It reminded him of how much he missed having an omega, how much he missed the softness and grounding they lent to his life.

Not that he had a bad life. The family he’d created with the other alphas suited him and the work they did pleased him, but nothing could quite replace the warmth and softness of a female. He wanted to go home to an omega, to the life one could bring to a house, to make it a home.

Joshua rested his sweat-slicked forehead against hers before feeding his fingers past her lips, the cum still on them—an alpha’s instinct to mark his mate with his own scent, with his taste.

Mate? The word sat at the tip of his tongue like a threat, but he couldn’t shove the title away, either

“But, just as I don’t understand the way you feel, you have to realize you don’t understand how an alpha feels.”

“How hard is it to understand your need to control everything?”

He shook his head, pushing the basket of breadsticks toward her, the same unspoken request for her to eat more that he’d been making all night. “You see control, but an alpha sees care. When I see an omega, something precious, it sparks a need to protect. When you’re in heat, my instinct tells me to satisfy you. When you’re hungry, when your stomach grumbles and you rub your temples, my instinct demands I feed you. Not doing so, allowing you to go on uncomfortable or in pain, it screams in my head. It’s a physical pain, a constant need.”

Seemed an aroused alpha was even more dangerous to her than anything else.

Her feet rooted in place, a book in one hand, she trembled there. She looked like a rabbit who had to decide just how much trouble she was in, too frozen too move, too afraid to stay.

Her gaze jerked around, landing on him, fear skittering across her features.

    Right.

    Don’t scare her.

Joshua shrugged, unwilling to lie and say she didn’t smell exactly what she smelled.

The way she’d flinched had burned into his memory, her arm rising to shield herself from a strike she’d felt sure would come. It had rooted each in place, a standoff between what they wanted and what she expected.

What life had she led that would have her so fearful? That would drain away so much of her confidence and sense of security?

An omega shouldn’t fear alphas, especially not him. She should relax in his presence, should feel as if she could let down her guard, that she could curl against him and close her eyes. Instead, only suspicion colored her eyes, made them narrow as they watched him.

“Easy, omega,” said the alpha to her left, a soft purr offered after the words.

While the idea of an alpha calming her with his purr would have had Claire ready to snarl at any other time, right then, it helped. It eased the fear and tension
