“Israel Rank”, by Roy Horniman, was published in 1907. It is the basis for the famous Ealing comedy “Kind Hearts and Coronets”, starring Alec Guinness and Dennis Price. The book details the life and criminal career of Israel Gascoyne Rank, who aspires to a peerage and thus murders his way to the title.
