INVISIBLE CHAIN #7: RELYING ON WILLPOWER
Have you ever seen those motivational videos on social media? You know, the ones where they tell you that as long as you have enough willpower, you’ll succeed? Their theory is that if you push yourself hard enough and work yourself hard enough, you’ll succeed no matter what your environment. I don’t see it this way.
Have you ever woken up full of energy and motivation ready to start the day? You probably have. Have you also had days where you wake up and don’t want to get out of bed? I’m pretty sure we’ve all had days like that. No matter how disciplined you are, willpower and motivation come and go.
People ask me, “Dan, how are you able to create so much impactful content across all social media platforms every single day? How are you so prolific when you still have a global organization to run? How do you manage all of the things you have going on?” The answer is simple. It’s because I don’t rely on willpower or motivation—I rely on structure.
Most people try to push toward their goals when they should take the opposite approach. Structure your time and environment so that you move toward your goal.
