There are few happier occasions in life than discovering that you have a baby on the way. It’s an exciting time and the nine months or so of pregnancy are a time of planning and preparing for the new addition to the family. By the time the baby is born, you’ve hopefully gotten everything ready for your new child’s arrival – but of course, this is when the work really begins.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a soothing, calm tone of voice is something that your baby will be able to pick up on, so whenever you’re trying to get your baby to bed, you’ll want to use this kind of voice. Speak softly, as if you were trying to reassure your child that everything is OK; this is especially true if they tend to cry and fuss when you’re trying to get them to go down for a nap. This alone will go a long way towards getting your baby to sleep, so even when you’re feeling frustrated by your baby’s behavior, stay calm, cool and collected and keep soothing your baby with your voice.

There is also a behavioral component at play here which parents need to become accustomed to. If you have a baby sleeping and want to keep them that way, you’re going to have to get used to being a little quieter around the home than you may have been before your new baby arrived. You’ll have to remind everyone to keep their voices down when your baby is sleeping, turn down the TV or radio and generally try to keep the noise
