Alderwren is a young woman living in the middle ages forced to defend her father’s castle against Archambault’s forces. Her father had refused to pay the exorbitant taxes the Duke imposed on all his vassals. A lengthy siege cost Alderwren her home and her father’s life. Alderwren surrendered to one of Archambault’s sons, Royale, a Templar knight home from the carnage of the Crusades which had left him weary and disillusioned. He and Alderwren strike up an uneasy truce.
