It's been eight years since Prudence's arranged wedding to Nikolas Angelis. Their relationship was never consummated and they have always lived apart. But now Prudence longs to have her own baby and she wants a divorce.
However, Nik is horrified — he is her husband and he will be the father of her child! Prudence reluctantly agrees to a trial marriage with Nik. But conceiving his baby? That's not a risk she's willing to take…

‘But you will, I assure you,’ Nik sliced in, soft and low and lethal, his Greek accent feathering over every syllable with purring exactitude. ‘Give me time.’ - what a jackass....

‘I can’t possibly leave the sanctuary—’ ‘Of course you can. Why do you think I insisted that you take on a competent employee?’ Her temper flared at that arrogant assertion. ‘You can say what you like, but I’m not leaving my animals to go off on some stupid honeymoon!’ - why would she want to abandon her family for a conceited, womanizing jackass??!!

Subscribing to charity and pioneering business-enterprise awards for the young weren’t enough to impress Prudence. He had to do something compassionate in the animal line. - exactly. Animals are sentient beings. Think about this the next time you eat chicken/fish/cheese etc. You're destroying another life for taste alone...

Finally he swung back to her, his golden eyes glittering as dangerously as the heart of a furnace, aggressive energy written in every line of his lean, beautifully balanced body. ‘If you keep the money, I walk…’ - douche is intimidated. Aside from being a womanizer, he's a control freak.

Well acquainted as he was with her views, he knew that both puppies and pedigrees had the easiest time finding a home and that any animal he picked should fall outside those two categories. - glad to see he "woke" up and started considering how vulnerable and innocent other lives are.
