This is a new adult coming-of-age story, set in the years 1990 and 1991. As the protagonist prepares for his final few months as a college student, he moves in with his best friend. At his part-time job, a stunning change of events results in a lucrative offer to stay in town after graduation and take on the role of office manager for a small one-ring traveling circus. In the process of hiring his replacement for the part-time duties, he meets the novel's love interest. In the course of working together, the two fall in love and begin their first real adult relationship. The story is dedicated to Generation X.
