It is shortly after World War One and the recently widowed Elke Hahn with three of her four sons, plus one grand daughter, relocate from their peaceful rural community to seek opportunity in a more dynamic big-city environment. Each in their own way is finding their world change in unexpected ways, and their need for resiliency and family.
