Mark Conard

Mark T. Conard is an American philosopher, crime and suspense writer, and editor. He is the author of numerous philosophy essays on filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Woody Allen, and others. Conard also describes himself as a "lover of Oxford commas."

Mark T. Conard earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Temple University in Philadelphia. Later he became an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.

Mark T. Conard is the author of Dark as Night (2021), A Killer’s Coda (2021), and a suspense thriller Breaking Character (2022), all published by Down&Out Books.

“I begin to figure out the main characters as the plot is taking shape, but the plot is what I develop first. The setting generally is where I’m living at the time of the writing, so most of my books are set in New York, but some of the earlier ones are in Philly,” the author says.

Mark Conard is the co-editor of The Simpsons and Philosophy, and Woody Allen and Philosophy; and is the editor of The Philosophy of Film Noir, The Philosophy of Neo-Noir, The Philosophy of Martin Scorsese, The Philosophy of The Coen Brothers, and The Philosophy of Spike Lee (all published by The University Press of Kentucky).

Conrad is also the editor of Nietzsche and the Philosophers (Routledge, 2017).

Mark Conard currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
