Vikki Wakefield

Vikki Wakefield is an Australian author who writes fiction for young adults and adults, traversing themes of family, class, and relationships against a contemporary backdrop. Wakefield is best recognized for her contributions to young adult fiction, including her notable series Tales of the Misplaced, and has recently expanded her repertoire to include adult fiction.

Vikki Wakefield was born and raised in a setting that provided rich material for her later writing. After high school, she has a diverse career path encompassing banking, journalism, and graphic design before focusing on writing.

A significant part of her educational journey at TAFE led to her publishing her first book, All I Ever Wanted, in 2011. This debut novel quickly garnered critical acclaim, winning the Adelaide Festival Award for Literature for Young Adult Fiction in 2012 and marking the beginning of Wakefield's successful literary career.

Her novels, including Friday Brown (2012), Inbetween Days (2015), and Ballad for a Mad Girl (2017), have been shortlisted for numerous awards, reflecting her ability to engage and challenge her audience. Her fifth novel, This Is How We Change the Ending, won the 2020 Children's Book of the Year Award: Older Readers.

In 2022, Wakefield published his first novel for adults, After You Were Gone, a psychological thriller that explores the aftermath of a child's disappearance from the perspective of a mother who never fit the conventional mold.

Her latest novel, To The River (2024), a compelling psychological thriller, weaves together the lives of two women, Rachel Weidermann and Sabine Kelly, set against the backdrop of a tragic fire in a remote caravan community. It explores themes of class, corruption, love, and loyalty, while also questioning the very foundations of truth and justice.

Vikki Wakefield lives in Adelaide, South Australia.
