Samantha Shannon

Samantha Shannon is a British bestselling fantasy author of The Bone Season and Roots of Chaos series. Her books have been translated into twenty-six languages.

Samantha Shannon was born and raised in West London. She started writing in abundance when she was twelve, started her first novel when she was fifteen, and studied English Language and Literature at St Anne's College, Oxford, specializing in the poetry of Emily Dickinson and Principles of Film Criticism.

In 2013, at 21, she published The Bone Season, the internationally bestselling first installment in a seven-book series of fantasy novels. The Imaginarium Studios, Chernin Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox bought the screen rights to The Bone Season.

Her fourth novel, The Priory of the Orange Tree, was her first outside The Bone Season series. It became a New York Times bestseller and a finalist in the Lambda Literary Awards 2020.

In February 2023, Shannon released a prequel titled A Day of Fallen Night. She has named the series The Roots of Chaos. Initially, she had intended to write only one book set in this universe, but she later realized that there were more stories to be told.

Shannon has called the series The Roots of Chaos, having originally planned to only write one book within the universe and later stating that there were more stories to tell.
