Peter Marino

Peter Marino is an English professor at Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, New York where he teaches writing, speech, and the occasional literature class. He won the SUNY Chancellor’s Award in 2006 for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activity. His first young adult novel Dough Boy, about a fat and self-conscious but very funny high school sophomore, was published by Holiday House in October 2005. School Library Journal called it “funny but heart-wrenching...The ending is hopeful as the teen regains his humor and discovers how much he enjoys cross-country skiing. A priority purchase for all libraries serving teens.” Dough Boy was released in paperback in the fall of 2007. He has two other novels with Holiday House, Alice Blunt about a high school senior fulfilling her social studies community service in a rather unexpected way, and Magic and Misery, about a teenage girl who tries to balance her friendships and her romance. They will be published in 2008. Marino is also the co-author of the full length play The Grandma Show, which has has been produced all over the United States, and the author of several one-acts. His ten-minute play "Ralph Smith of Schenectady, New York’s Coming-Out-To-His-Wife Options," has been produced in the 9th Annual New York City 15 Minute Play Festival, the Samuel French 2003 Short Play Festival, and SlamBoston! 2005. Another one-act, "The Good Samaritan" (with the same protagonist as "Ralph Smith"), won first place in SlamBoston! 2006.
