Ian Morgan Cron was born and raised in the United States. He pursued his education at Bowdoin College, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in English and Romance Languages. He furthered his theological studies at New York Theological Seminary, obtaining a Master of Divinity (MDiv). His first book, Chasing Francis: A Pilgrim's Tale (2006), is a novel that tells the story of a minister's journey of faith and self-discovery. This work laid the foundation for Cron's career as a writer who blends narrative and spiritual exploration.

In 2011, Cron published his memoir, Jesus, My Father, the CIA, and Me: A Memoir...of Sorts, a bestseller according to the Wall Street Journal. The memoir, featured in the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers program, offers a poignant and humorous look at Cron's life, his relationship with his father, and his spiritual journey.

Cron is perhaps best known for The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Awareness (2016), co-authored with Suzanne Stabile. This book has been instrumental in popularizing the Enneagram, a personality typing system that identifies nine types of people and their interactions with the world.

In The Road Back to You, Cron and Stabile present a practical and comprehensive guide to the Enneagram. They explore its connections with Christian spirituality, offering readers a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with God. The book's engaging stories and humor make it an enjoyable read, while its insights encourage readers to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery.

Through podcasts and speaking engagements, Cron continues sharing his knowledge of the Enneagram. He said, "With every chapter I write, every podcast I record, every stage I share from, I'm doing my best to help you live a better story, too."
