Jerome M. Segal

Jerome M. Segal is an American philosopher, author, and political activist. He authored several books on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and has over 100 radio and TV appearances.

Jerome Michael Segal was born and raised in The Bronx. His father, a socialist and member of the Jewish Labor Bund, was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States.

Dr. Segal received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He taught for several years in the Philosophy Department of the University of Pennsylvania. He then returned to school and received an MPA from the Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs (University of Minnesota).

After receiving his MPA from the University of Minnesota, Segal moved to Washington, D.C., in 1974 to work as an aide to Congressman Donald M. Fraser.

Since 1982, Jerome M. Segal has been active in the American Jewish peace movement. His books include Creating the Palestinian State (1989), Agency and Alienation — a Theory of Human Presence (1991), Graceful Simplicity — Toward a Philosophy and Politics of Simple Living (1999), Negotiating Jerusalem (co-author, 2000) and Joseph’s Bones: Understanding the Struggle Between God and Mankind in the Bible (2008).

Dr. Jerome M. Segal is a Senior Research Scholar at the Center for International and Strategic Studies and a Research Scholar at the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy at the University of Maryland. In addition, he is President and founder of The Jewish Peace Lobby.

Jerome M. Segal resides in Silver Spring.
