Allan Gyngell retired in 2013 as Director-General of ONA, the government’s central intelligence assessment agency. That followed six years as the founding director of the Lowy Institute and before that as Paul Keating’s foreign policy adviser and speechwriter in government and afterwards. Gyngell is co-author of the 2003 book Making Australian Foreign Policy.
