Anna Kang

Anna Kang is an American children's book author. Her debut picture book, You Are (Not) Small, won the 2015 Theodor Seuss Geisel Award.

Anna was born in the Bronx and grew up on Long Island where she spent her free time reading Teen Beat magazine, Archie comics, and going to the local multiplex. She attended Tufts University and studied International Relations and Asian Studies. But then changed her mind and earned a Master of Arts degree from USC's School of Cinematic Arts because she dreamed of telling stories.

After graduating, she was selected to participate in the Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab with her first feature script, The Lost Tribe of Long Island.

Anna's debut picture book, You Are (Not) Small, was illustrated by her husband, New Yorker cartoonist Christopher Weyant. The simple text and bold illustrations tell an original and funny story about size. Inspired by her experience growing up in Long Island, teased and bullied for being Korean American, Kang (whose Korean name is Kang So-yeon) saw the book as a result of the lessons she learned as a kid. The book became the winner of the 2015 Theodor Seuss Geisel Award.

Anna Kang lives with her husband, cartoonist/illustrator Christopher Weyant, their daughters, and their fluffy dog, Hudson.
