Marjorie Flack

Marjorie Flack is an American pioneering artist and author of beloved children's picture books. Her most well-known book is The Story About Ping (illustrated by Kurt Wiese, 1933), popularized by the television series Captain Kangaroo. In 1947 Flack was given a Caldecott Honor for her book, The Boats on the River (illustrated by Jay Hyde Barnum, 1946).

Marjorie Flack was born in Greenport, Long Island. Her fascination with art and storytelling began at an early age, encouraged by her parents, who recognized her creative talents. Flack's thirst for knowledge led her to pursue formal education at the Art Students League in New York City, where she honed her artistic skills under the guidance of prominent artists of the time.
