Sylvia Harbaugh Caldwell was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the mid-1880s. She attended Park College, where she met her future husband, Albert F. Caldwell. She was on the Titanic when it sank in 1912 and wrote an account of what happened afterward, Women of the Titanic Disaster. She died in 1965 at the age of eighty-one.
