Greer Macallister

Greer Macallister is an American poet, short story writer, playwright, and historical fiction novelist. Greer Macallister is a pen name for G.R. Macallister, the author of the Five Queendoms series.

Raised in the Midwest, Greer Macallister earned her MFA in creative writing from American University, where she staged her first plays.

Her debut novel, The Magician's Lie (2015), was a USA Today and MIBA Indie bestseller, an Indie Next, LibraryReads, and Target Book Club Pick, and was chosen by guest judge Whoopi Goldberg as a Book of the Month Club selection. Also, it has been optioned for film by Jessica Chastain's Freckle Films.

Her novel Girl In Disguise (2017) and historical thriller Woman 99 (2019) were inspired by pioneering 19th-century private detective Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton agent in 1856, and fearless journalist Nellie Bly, respectively.

Her most recent book, The Arctic Fury (2020), was named an Indie Next, Library Reads pick, and an Amazon Best Book of the Month. Macallister regularly contributes to Writer Unboxed and the Chicago Review of Books.

Greer Macallister lives with her family in Boston.
