John Enright

John Enright is an American editor and author. His essays, articles, short stories, and poems have appeared in over ninety books, anthologies, journals, periodicals and online magazines.

John Enright was born in Buffalo, New York. He served stints in semi-professional baseball and the Lackawanna steel mills before earning a degree from City College of New York while working full-time at Fortune, Time, and Newsweek magazines.

After completing an M.A. in folklore at UC Berkeley, he spent the 1970s working in publishing in New York, San Francisco, and Hong Kong.

He left the United States to teach at the American Samoa Community College in 1981. For the next 26 years, he preserved environmental, cultural, and historical resources in the South Pacific area.

His collection of poems from Samoa, 14 Degrees South, won the University of the South Pacific Press’s inaugural International Literature Competition.

John Enright and his wife, ceramicist Connie Payne, live in Owensboro, Kentucky.
