Ashley Winstead

Ashley Winstead is an American novelist who writes thrillers and romantic comedies. She wrote In My Dreams, I Hold a Knife (2021), The Last Housewife (2022), Fool Me Once (2022), The Boyfriend Candidate and Midnight is the Darkest Hour (both 2023). Several of her books have been translated into a dozen languages and optioned for film and television adaptations.

Ashley Winstead holds a Ph.D. in contemporary American literature from Southern Methodist University and a B.A. in English and Art History from Vanderbilt University.

Her previous works include In My Dreams, I Hold a Knife, a psychological thriller that scrutinizes group dynamics and the human propensity towards self-harm. The Last Housewife investigates the psychological entanglements within a cult, while Fool Me Once juxtaposes romantic entanglement with professional rivalry. One of her most recent works, The Boyfriend Candidate, is a romantic comedy.

The novel Midnight is the Darkest Hour (2023) is set in a locale beleaguered by folklore and centers on the protagonist, Ruth Cornier, a librarian who confronts the sinister secrets of her town.

Among the accolades Winstead has received are Library Read picks, Loan Star picks, Best of Amazon picks, and Best of Apple Books picks, as well as starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, BookPage, and Library Journal.
