Frida Nilsson is a Swedish children’s award-winning author who has also written scripts for radio and television. She has been an August Prize nominee three times and won the Astrid Lindgren Prize in 2014. Her work has been published in more than 20 languages.

Frida Nilsson was born in Hardemo, Sweden. Her childhood serves as the inspiration for her renowned books centered around the character Hedvig.

She debuted in 2004 with Kråkans otroliga liftarsemester (“Crow’s Amazing Hitch-hiking Holiday,” not translated into English) and has since published a series of popular and acclaimed works.

She is known for her remarkable blend of humor and sincere expression in her writing. Nilsson writes about the big questions in life — friendship, death, and love — and has been compared to writers such as Roald Dahl and Barbro Lindgren.

Her books have been awarded Swedish and international prizes. She received the James Krüss Award for International Children’s Literature in 2019 and the LUCHS, annually awarded by Die Zeit, for her book The Thin Sword.

She has been nominated for ALMA, the Deutscher Jugend Literaturpreis in Germany, and the August Prize (three times). In 2017, the International Children’s Literature Hay Festival in Aarhus selected her as one of the 39 best European children’s book authors aged 40 and under.

In 2021, Swedish Academy awarded Frida Nilsson a prize for children’s and young adult literature.
