Henry Carey

Henry Carey (c. 26 August 1687 – 5 October 1743) was an English poet, dramatist, song-writer, and political satirist. Many of his works were published anonymously, so attribution is sometimes questionable. He is known to be the author of the poem Namby Pamby, a satirical work that gave rise to the English term meaning insipid and sentimental. He is also sometimes credited with creating the song God Save the King.
