Sarah Edghill

Sarah Edghill is a British author known for her work in contemporary fiction. She is best known for her novels that explore complex family dynamics and personal struggles.

Sarah Edghill was born in England. Her career began as a journalist, and she spent years as a feature writer, which taught her much about writing quickly and effectively. Sarah said, "Journalism taught me how to get something down on an empty page without worrying about making every word perfect."

Her journalism career also involved interviewing a wide range of people, from child stars to aging Hollywood divas, entrepreneurs, health experts, and ordinary people with extraordinary stories. These experiences provided her with invaluable lessons about character and human behavior. "There are reasons and motives behind every action," Sarah noted.

Eight years ago, Sarah decided to transition from journalism to fiction writing. Her first book was written quickly, without much preparation. "My debut, A Thousand Tiny Disappointments, came out in September 2021, and I was a bundle of nerves beforehand," Sarah recalled. "But I was overwhelmed by the support I received, particularly from the local community."

After her debut novel, she wrote His Other Woman (2022) and The Bad Wife (2023). Her latest book, Memory Road (2024), tells the story of Lily, who agrees to take her mother, Moira, on a road trip around the UK despite Moira's worsening dementia. The journey tests Lily's patience as she deals with her mother's decline, her daughter's criticism, and her ex-husband's upcoming wedding. A chance encounter during the trip offers Lily a glimpse of a new future.

Sarah has also written numerous short stories and pieces of flash fiction. She won the National Association of Writing Groups Annual Short Story Award in December 2018 for All The Things We Cannot Say.

Sarah describes herself as a 'pantser,' a writer who starts with an idea and writes without a detailed plan. "Even now, I love the excitement of starting something fresh and letting my fingers fly across the keyboard," she explained.

Sarah Edghill lives in Gloucestershire with her husband, three children, and animals.
