Elizabeth Reeder

I'm a writer. I write fiction (long, short, for radio) and crossover pieces as well (e.g. lyrical and narrative essays). My first novel, Ramshackle was published in April 2012 by Freight Books. My next novel, Fremont, was published in October 2012 by Kohl Publishing. I've chosen these new independent presses (both based in Scotland) because they're run by talented, smart, ambitious individuals. Each press has a different approach and I've been loving the process and the reception for Ramshackle so far has been quite strong with some excellent UK national reviews and it was shortlisted for the 2012 Saltire Scottish First Book of the Year. Fremont's launch was fantastic and has also garnered some excellent reviews. Although I was born in Chicago, I've lived in Scotland for quite a few years. I teach at University of Glasgow on the Creative Writing programme and it's essential that I spend at least a portion of my time working with other writers. I travel a decent amount, and the highlands of Scotland are a favourite haunt, as is the SW of the USA. Chicago is my favourite city, and although I can survive quite happily out in the wilds, I love the buzz of the city.
