Lawrence Hoba is a Zimbabwean author. He represents a new generation of budding writers determined to have their voices heard but recognize that writing is more art than impulse.
Lawrence Hoba was born in 1983 in Masvingo. He studied Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of Zimbabwe. Additionally, Hoba got MBA from Heriot-Watt UniversityHeriot-Watt University.
Hoba’s short stories and poetry have appeared in the Mirror, Budding Writers of Zimbabwe magazine, and various blog sites, including www.zimbablog.com.
Lawrence was published in the collections Writing Now (2005) and Laughing Now (2007), and the Warwick Review (2009). In 2009, Weaver Press (Zimbabwe) published his collection of short stories The Trek and Other Stories. His anthology was nominated for the NAMA 2010 and won the ZBPA award for Best Literature in English.
"The Trek and Other Stories concentrate on land reform. While these stories are focused mainly on the period between 1999 and 2009, it cannot be denied that the land apportionment processes of the 1930s set the precedence for a reverse occupation at a future date, given that these were the reason Black people had gone on to fight for liberation against colonial rule," the writer said.
Lawrence Hoba is also the founder of ENRAPOWER, renewable energy solutions, energy consulting, solar, and wind energy for Africa.
