A classic Japanese tale of generosity rewardedOn January first, everyone in Japan celebrates a birthday, no matter when they were born. A great feast is made, but this year Sachiko and Kenji's mother can't afford special soups and tasty fish for the traditional New Year's meal. The children have an idea: they will sell their crafts in town to earn money for the feast. They are unsuccessful at the market, but a chance visit to the Shrine of the Seven Gods of Luck and a thoughtful gift lead to a welcome New Year's surprise as the magic and generosity of the season end up providing for all.
This year, may the Seven Gods of Luck visit you!
