This is a summary of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. The original Greek title for Meditations was ‘Things to One’s Self’ as it was a personal journal of thoughts and reminders the emperor wrote to himself during his 19-year reign. Since it was not intended for publication, its contents are unordered, not written for comprehension and often repeat. This summary reorders and consolidates them, making the work more digestible
While themes have been interpreted the aim has been not to embellish them, but simply to state them in order as clearly as possible. The summary works very well as a go-to for whenever you’re feeling stressed or anxious about life, or just as a daily read to re-impress the Stoic wisdom of Meditations upon yourself.
