For years, Nysa has been held in a facility that tortures her in the hopes of understanding her powers. Those holding her want to harness the powers of the gods, in this instance the powers of the god of dreams and the god of nightmares. She's started to give up on ever getting out of the facility alive, contemplating how to coax her captors into ending her life for good when they appear.
Morpheus, the god of dreams, and his brother Neiros, the god of nightmares, realize that their realms are in peril. Their magic has diminished, and the only way for that to happen is if their powers have been stolen. They trace their powers back to Nysa and kidnap her from the facility holding her. They have every intent of killing her to reclaim their missing magic.
But one night, after slipping into the nightmare of a young girl, Nysa realizes that not only does she have her powers for a reason, she'd make a better ruler over dreams and nightmares than the two holding her against her will. As the mystery surrounding how Nysa came by her powers unfurls, the brothers realize that they have no intent of killing Nysa. Not anymore.
The only question that remains? Will Nysa want them just as badly?
